Jenn Thompson, MFA

For me to finish a painting? To actually "get there"? A friend of mine suggested I call what I do, "Torture Painting". Torture for me because one painting any number of people might consider done, any number of months before, is not finished until I find what I'm not entirely sure is there.

I am a nonlinear artist. Editing, underpainting, and layering are key. My intention is for the viewer to take the time to lose themselves in my work and possibly discover something they have never known. I want each painting to be a full-blown activity for the audience; interpretation is to be based completely on their experience and not mine.

nonlinear
1. not of, in, along, or relating to a line
2. denoting editing in which edits are saved, thus enabling further edits to be made
